Jackie Murphy, Creative Director jmurphy@vitalcompanies.com |
With more than 16 years of experience in design, marketing, events, P.R. and running her own business The Queen Bee Paper Company, Jackie brings to Vital a fresh take on creative, marketing, branding and overall project management. She’s been freelancing the past few years in agencies, promoting local, and buzzing on social media as the “queen bee.” One of her passions is the Drexel Theatre where Jackie has been integral in increasing the local theater’s brand awareness through social media, graphic design, events and collaboration with area organizations and businesses. Outside of work, she loves watching her two teens play baseball and volleyball, going to concerts with her husband Tim, seeing movies and trying new places to eat. We’re thrilled to have her perspective and energy that will complement and lead our creative team at Vital.
Favorite films: Braveheart, Life is Beautiful
“We are so excited to have Jackie leading our creative team. She brings a wealth of knowledge from her years of marketing experience and a wonderful energy that fits perfectly with our clients and our internal culture.” - Jason Clayton, CMO/Partner

Gabriel Kaunitz, Technical Coordinator gkaunitz@vitalcompanies.com |
After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film and Television from Savannah College of Art and Design, Gabriel moved to the thriving film mecca Albuquerque to expand his technical skills and expertise at a production and post company that supported filmmaker and agencies. Touted as the “utility guy,” Gabe further honed his shooting, coloring, editing skills before heading to his hometown of Charlotte, NC. As Assistant Editor and Colorist at the digital agency Tattoo Projects, he worked on digital and commercial projects for Victory Motorcycles, Sheetz and Hostess. Wishing to move to Ohio where his wife Nancy is from, with their two-year old son Gideon, Gabe connected with Vital and joined the team. We knew we had to have him as part of our team after we saw his ability to string together a story from random assets. (Just a little test we give to our production hopefuls!)
Favorite films: American Beauty, Jarhead
"We are thrilled to be able to provide a new creative home for Gabe, and welcome him to the Columbus creative community." - Fred Blitzer, CEO/Managing Partner

Homestead Beer Co. Collaborates with Angela Perley & The Howlin' Moons
Homestead Beer Company has teamed up with Angela Perley & The Howlin' Moons to create a rockin' new brew: Homemade Vision IPA! Homemade Vision IPA is the next installment in Homestead's "Artist Series", in which they create beer inspired by their favorite musicians. The beer will make it debut at Grandview Digfest on June 11th, where Angela Perley & The Howlin' Moons will also be performing.
Homemade Vision IPA will be an American IPA made with generous amounts of centennial, cascade, and simcoe hops, which will result in a floral and citrus aroma. The beer joins other inspired beers in Homestead's Artist Series, such as "Sky Blue Sky" - an India Vienna Lager inspired by Wilco, and "Blonde on Blonde" - a Belgian Golden Strong Ale for Bob Dylan. Homestead Beer Co.'s brewing facility and tasting room is located in Heath, Ohio. They are the first large-scale microbrewery dedicated to craft beer in Licking County.
Grandview Digfest is on June 11th from 4pm - 10:30pm in the First Avenue of Grandview Yard. The festival is a celebration of local craft breweries, distilleries, wineries, and restaurants. This year they celebrate their 5th year of "Drinking in Grandview". Entrance is free and drinks can be purchased with tickets. By purchasing a presale package before June 11th, you can save money, skip the ticket lines the day of the event, and enjoy bigger pours with a 16 oz. souvenir tumbler. $2 from every presale purchase will go to the Ronald McDonald House Charities in Central Ohio.

2016 Demo Reels
Presenting our new demo reels for 2016! The following videos are short compilations of some of our most recent video work. From interviews, to promos, to music videos, we've done a lot this year!
Motion graphic videos are great for businesses and organizations because they can be highly informative, while being visually appealing at the same time. Transforming educational content into colorful and dynamic content can increase a customer's (or employee's) understanding of your product, company, message, or brand. Pairing animation with live action footage and/or a voiceover is a great way to captivate your audience.
We really enjoy helping our clients tell their stories through live action video. Creating emotional connections through digital content continues to be our main focus. We've also gotten many chances to flex our creative muscles on some music videos and branding campaigns.
Thank you to everyone who helped make these projects happen. In addition to our wonderful clients, it's been great working with some great DPs, grips, gaffers, makeup artists, and talent this past year.

Germany's Beer Purity Law Turns 500 This Year
This year Germany celebrates the 500 year anniversary of Reinheitsgebot, also known as the "German Beer Purity Law". The original law was issued on April 23rd, 1516 by Bavarian co-rulers Duke Wilhem IV and Duke Ludwig X.
According to the medieval food-safety law, the only ingredients that could be used in the production of beer were water, barley, and hops. At the time, yeast had not yet been discovered. The law intended to keep beer "pure" of cheap and often unhealthy ingredients, such as poisonous roots, mushrooms, animals products, and sawdust. It also prevented the use of chemicals, preservatives, and artificial process enhancers. Introducing the law also helped to prevent price competition with bakers for wheat and rye. By excluding wheat and rye from beer and reserving it for bakers, the law helped to ensure a low price for bread.
Modern changes and exceptions have since been made to the law. Yeast was added to the list of acceptable ingredients. Bottom-fermented beer (lagers, pilsners, bocks) can now include powdered hops, ground hops, hops extracts, and fining agents. Top-fermented beers (ales, porters, stouts, wheat beers) can now include all the aforementioned ingredients, plus malt and sugars for flavor and coloring. Any beer brewed in Germany that does not follow the Reinheitsgebot can still be sold, just as long as it is not labeled as "bier". Overall, the intention of the original Reinheitsgebot was to ensure that all German breweries produced an all natural, wholesome, and flavorful product.

Even though the law is technically no longer in effect, many German brewmasters still adhere to the earlier versions of the Reinheitsgebot as a matter of German pride and tradition. Breweries that adhere to the Reinheitsgebot rely on the art and craft of their brewer to turn a short list of ingredients into a variety of beer styles. Til this day, the only beers permitted to be served at Oktoberfest in Munich are beers that adhere to the Reinheitsgebot.
